Chiron – also known as the wounded healer, is an asteroid discovered in 1977 and to many was symbolic of a new age of awareness and spiritual discovery. With an elliptical orbit between Saturn (furthest of the classical planets) and Uranus (first of the modern discoveries) it is commonly referred to as the “Rainbow Bridge” as it links traditional with modern.

Here Sheri Horn Hasan, an American astrologer based in New Jersey shares her personal encounters with Chiron…

I had one of the saddest and most shocking experiences of my life as transiting Pluto – planet of transformation, death and rebirth – opposed my natal Midheaven while transiting North Node conjoined my natal Uranus. Lying on the table where I’d undergone a routine sonogram to check on the progress of my 10-week old pregnancy, the doctor solemnly informed me that the baby’s heartbeat was no more.

Devastated by the news, my husband and I grieved our loss and tried to go about our lives as usual with our son then four and half years old, biding our time until we could conceive again.

Little did I know that these and other planetary occurrences would foretell a powerful change in my life’s direction and pave the way for an as yet unidentified greater spiritual purpose.

My natal Chiron, asteroid representing the wounded healer, is in Aquarius in the 6th house of health, service, and everyday life also conjoining Mars in a tight opposition to Pluto in Leo in the 12th.

In Greek mythology Chiron is known as the “wounded healer.” Half mortal, half immortal. Half human and half beast, Chiron rose above the rest of the centaurs through his ability to utilize his healing powers on behalf of others. When wounded in the thigh by a poison-tipped arrow as he was caught in the crossfire of a dispute of which he was not a part, the injury caused him unbearable pain, but his immortality kept him from relieving his excruciating suffering through death.

What I didn’t know then, but do know now, is that Chiron would hold the key to how I reacted to events triggered by planetary transits that were about to propel me on my own personal journey of deep woundedness – one that would change the course of my entire life. I subsequently discovered that it was up to me in which direction I would turn that key to make the most of these life-altering events.

As I began to experience symptoms of intermittent numbness in my right leg and foot, and a burning sensation that ran from my right hip down into my thigh, walking became difficult and my legs felt like they weighed a ton as I struggled up and down stairs and to chase after my extremely active pre-schooler. Unbeknownst to me at the time, transiting Chiron also opposed my natal Midheaven, and began to square my Virgo
