Saturn, having recently moved into the harmonious sign of Libra definitely has his work cut out for him when he squares off to Pluto, the dark lord of the underworld.
In mythological terms, Kronos (Saturn) had slain his father Ouranos (Uranus) and as it was prophesised, in turn his own offspring would attempt to take his life so he swallowed all five of them to avoid his own demise. One of those offspring was Hades (Pluto) and as fate would have it, was involved in the successful conspiracy to overthrow his father. As Saturn rules karma and Pluto rules the hidden depths, perhaps this transit will act as a reminder that what comes around goes around, sometimes bringing heavy consequences!
As the two slow moving planets come face to face to battle it out like a planetary Clash of the Titans, there will be an underlying sense of pressure in which something will have to be eliminated to allow for renewal. But change won’t happen over night and perhaps some of the “powers who be” could be overthrown in order to make way for a new order, much like a modern version of Kronos’ story.
On a mundane level, Pluto is in Capricorn, ruling structure, traditions and corporate business and as Pluto is in the sign ruled by Saturn, this double whammy will likely highlight a crisis in society’s current infrastructure. This transit will urge our governments to take cautious measures to find the most productive solution. Capricorn is also an earth sign and in the wake of a global meltdown, natural resources and how they are sourced is becoming an alarming concern.
During this time there could be political strife and power struggles as governments struggle to keep their economies buoyant while trying to cope with inflation. The conflict this creates could suggest the potential for a political schism, especially ahead of the UK general election.
However diplomatic Libra in Saturn is likely to diffuse any major conflicts before the scales of justice tip too far in one direction. It may even signify peaceful endings to current wars being fought in the world, but not without reaching crisis point first.
How this long term transit affects us personally, strangely, in the long run may leave us feeling liberated and empowered although the journey to get to that point will be intense and challenging.
Saturn rules fear and the tense aspect it makes to Pluto will act as a catalyst exposing us to intense encounters over and over until the lesson sinks in. As Saturn is in the non-confrontational sign of Libra, a lot of compromises and adjustments will need to be made within relationships, although it may bring on burdens or obligations. Additionally, the Libran tendencies create a balancing act in hopes of finding amicable solutions although it may feel more like walking a tight rope at times. Pluto’s energy is to eliminate what is no longer necessary and in some cases confrontation may be the only solution. Personal relationships that can’t endure the pressure may come to an end; however, unions worth keeping will survive the strain and become stronger for it.
