During its annual passage along the ecliptic, the Sun appears to move through the twelve constellations of the zodiac as observed here on Earth. The constellations from Aires through to Pisces form a celestial backdrop for the Sun as it follows its apparent path. The term “zodiac” comes from the Greek meaning “circle of creatures” and over time constellations were named after the creature bearing it’s shape. Eventually, each sign developed characteristics based on celestial mythology and legends.

As the precession of the equinoxes have been noted for thousands of years, the Sun’s yearly journey through the twelve signs of the zodiac has become symbolic of life on Earth. A new cycle of life begins when the Sun reaches 0º Aries marking the Vernal Equinox. As the Sun continues it’s journey throughout the zodiac passing through the four seasonal cardinal points another cycle of life is symbolically completed.
